The Book of Joy

Last year I made a long list of goals and things I wanted to achieve by the end of the year. One of my goals was to read a book every month, has it actually happened? NO, it has not, I have read about 3 books in 8 months.

The excuses that bounced in my head were, I just don’t have enough time in a day for me to sit down and read, chores, chores, chores and everything else in between would always somehow come first. I was so consumed with trying to always have my house clean and neat. Until one day I woke up and said, “Newsflash Donna you have a husband, a three-year-old and an infant in between everything else.”

Get real, it’s NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN and that’s okay! By the time I finish cleaning the kitchen it’s time to eat again. I have now simplified by daily cleaning routine which I will share with you guys in another post under Simplicity. So now I make a priority during my day to MAKE time, time FOR MYSELF. So every month one of my goals is to read an entire book of my choice.

So in between breakfast, lunch and during nap time I’m currently reading The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World by Dalai Lama XIV, Desmond Tutu, Douglas Carlton Abrams

This book is about two great spiritual masters sharing their own hard-won wisdom about living with joy even in the face of adversity. I have the hardcover and it has 354 pages, I have only read up to page 33 but that’s okay, at least now I’m actually reading right?

I never knew how much I enjoy reading, I really do. I can get lost in a good read for hours. I love reading about all kinds of stuff, but romance and spiritually is by far my favorite types of novels. So far the book of joy is AMAZING but I can’t wait to catch up and update you guys. But I do want to share some quotes from this book I wrote down on my vision journal:

“Why be unhappy about something if it can be remedied? And what is the use of being unhappy if it cannot be remedied?”
